tower block research

I am currently working on a project which is exploring the sound of some iconic modernist/brutalist tower blocks that are situated near my studio in Poplar. This one is Balfron Tower which is a 27 story block designed by Erno Goldfinger. I have been making some exploratory recordings of wind noise and the acoustics of the stairwells and public spaces and I’ve found some interesting sounds with contact microphones in the lifts. My plan is to use these recordings to make a composition which explores the sounds of these buildings. I am also recording in Robin Hood Gardens, another Tower Block nearby. I’ll be posting some sound soon....
